Updated BHS ’62 Missing Classmates List (as of 4/24/12)

 Help Wanted!

We’ve been fairly successful so far, but we need your help.  Following is a list of 11 of our classmates that we have been unable to locate.  Most of them have been “missing” since our first reunion in 1972, but we’re determined to find them.

If you have any information about one or more of these lost ’62 classmates, we’d really like to hear from you.*  Please don’t assume someone else will give us the information.  If that was the case, we might already have located the missing classmates.  So if you know anything, send an email message to Dick Luff (RLuff329 at hotmail.com) or call his cell (440-725-2848).

Thanks for taking the time to look at the list and think about what you might know.  If you can help us in any way, message or call Dick Luff today!

*Anything you can tell us might help us to locate them. If you knew the person, or knew who they were friends with in high school or even grade school, let us know.  If you remember the names of their siblings, we might be able to find their brother or sister.  If you remember where they lived, or remember their parents’ names, that might give us a lead in our search.  If you know the name of the person they married, we might be able to find their spouse.  If you have information on where they were at any point from 1962 to the present (address, city, where they worked, anything), that might help.

Missing Classmates

We are working on the details for our big 50th reunion, and one of our objectives is to contact every classmate and tell them about the reunion.  We know not everybody will choose to attend the reunion, but we believe every classmate should have the opportunity to know about the reunion plans and schedule and decide if they want to attend.  We’ve been fairly successful so far, but we need your help. Following is a list of 22 of our classmates that we have been unable to locate.  Most of them have been “missing” since our first reunion in 1972, but we’re determined to find them.  If you have any information about one or more of these “lost” ’62 classmates, we need to hear from you.  Anything you can tell us might help us to locate them.  If you knew the person, or knew who they were friends with in school, let us know.  If you remember names of their siblings, we might be able to find their brother or sister.  If you remember where they lived, or remember parents’ names, that might give us a lead in our search.  If you know the name of the person they married, we might be able to find their spouse.  If you have information on where they were at any point from 1962 to the present (address, city, where they worked, anything), that might help.  Don’t assume someone else will give us information.  If that was the case, we might already have located the missing classmates.  So if you know anything, call Dick Luff at (440)725-2848 or email him at RLuff329 at Hotmail.com.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at the list and think about who you might know the whereabouts of.  Here is our list of missing 1962 classmates:

’62 Scholarship Fund – please note the “Donate” button to your right or download and use the mail in form :-)

Dear Classmate:

As part of our Class of 1962’s 50th reunion this year, our Class is creating a scholarship in the name of ’62 for at least one graduating senior from BHS so that he or she might further his/her education. As a first step, we’re coalescing a Scholarship “Committee” of classmates to demonstrate broad based support within our class for the fundraising effort.

Your high school circa 1962

In brief, our class can create a scholarship through Berea’s The Educational Foundation* (TEF) for as little as $500. If we raise $13,000 we can create an endowed scholarship in our class’s name.

To be part of the Scholarship Committee, we’d ask that you commit to:
1) Making a donation meaningful to your circumstances to TEF, ideally by February 15, 2012. TEF will manage the funds and be involved with the process for awarding the scholarship.
2) Being an information resource for classmates and encouraging their gift to TEF.
3) Allowing your name to be used in the fundraising effort (unless you request to be anonymous).

Scholarship Committee members so far include John Gardner, Bill Anderson, Uldis Kruze, Ron Landeck, Ted Stalzer, Bob Rosselli, Craig Toedtman, Chris Macosko, Karen Cajka Silvers, Mark Mathis, Dick Luff, Don Auble, and myself. The more the merrier, so consider this an invitation to join us!

It’s safe to say there are many Berea High seniors who will be constrained in their quest for further education because of limited funds. A TEF scholarship funded by and in the name of ’62 will be an excellent way those of us who benefited from Berea Schools can and do give back.

Warm regards,

Krist Jake

*The Educational Foundation is a scholarship granting non-profit aligned with the Berea School District. It is a 501(c)(3) with an independent board  (classmate Don Auble is an Honorary Board Member) and all donations are tax deductible.  See http://www.berea.k12.oh.us/foundation

’62 Update:
The Berea High ’62 Scholarship fund is off to a great start – as of January 6, 2012, $850 has been donated by 5 classmates. Excellent! We’ll be able to award a scholarship to a senior from this year’s graduating class. And we’re encouraged to consider a commitment to create an endowed scholarship!

The Berea Triangle as it was then...

Save the Date email of October 30, 2011

“The Big FIVE-OH”

SAVE THE DATE – the weekend of August 3-5, 2012

Hard to believe it’s been nearly 50 years since our days at Berea High.  Your Reunion committee is at work planning our Golden Anniversary, and we have some exciting plans brewing.  We’re still working on the schedule of events for the weekend, but these things are already confirmed:

  • Friday, August 3 there will be a casual evening mixer at the American Legion Hall in Berea
  • Saturday August 4 from six to eleven we’ve planned a casual evening with dinner, a live “oldies” band, tributes and good conversations at the beautiful indoor Terrace Club Pub at Progressive Field (formerly known as Jacobs Field) – the home of the Cleveland Indians.

The Terrace Club, located inside the ball park with a panoramic view of the field, is a neat place to hold a party, and we’re really excited that we could secure the date for our class reunion.

Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to see old classmates (we really are only at the outer edges of middle age – right?), renew friendships, share some stories from our past and catch up to the present.  The last unified class to graduate from Berea High is getting ready to PARTY!

Mark your calendar NOW for August 3-5, 2012 and plan to attend.  We’re really excited about our Big FIVE-OH, and we look forward to seeing YOU at our reunion next August.
